Welcome to the Barony of al-Barran

The Barony of al-Barran is a chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc (SCA) . The SCA is a non-profit organization devoted to researching and recreating the Middle Ages in the present. Some members concentrate on the study of the European Middle Ages and Renaissance eras, with many members working to recreate the arts and skills of these eras. Other members concentrate on the study of Middle East and Asian Cultures, with many members working to recreate the arts and skills of their chosen areas and also explore the interaction between Europe and Asia during the periods under study.

In the “Known World of the Current Middle Ages” al-Barran is located within the Kingdom of the Outlands . The Barony was originally established by the Kingdom of Atenveldt on November 11, 1975. Our first baron was Sir Raymond the Quiet.

In the modern world al-Barran is centered around Albuquerque, New Mexico and extends north to Algodones, east to Moriarty, west to Grants, and south to Belen.

Like other organizations we strive to acknowledge these efforts. If you see something that is meritorious. recommend them for an award!

One of the best things about the SCA is the opportunity it presents to learn about different medieval arts & sciences, about fighting, archery, and deeds of service. In the SCA you will find a lot of people who have a greater or lesser degree of skill and/or knowledge about these activities. You will also discover that some people are more involved in making things “happen”; that is, they spend time and energy working to make the Society a more fun and functional place.

Whether you are a person new to the SCA who has never attended an event, or an old hat who has relocated to the lands of our fair barony, or even someone who has been battling the dragons of Mundania but has finally been able to return home, we welcome you!

Perhaps you would like to contact and attend a newcomer gathering or other monthly meetings in which you are interested. It often helps to get to know a few people. Our Chatelaine  will help you gain a foothold with the things that you are interested in.
